Bird In Hand
Surrounded by sprawling countryside and neighboring Amish farms, Bird-in-Hand was established in the 1700s as a place for travelers to stop and rest. During this time, inns were identified by painted signs, because pictures were understood by all travelers. The sign at the inn that inspired the town's name literally depicted a man with a bird in his hand. Today the town remains rich with Pennsylvania Dutch history and culture through its restaurants, bakeries, quaint local shops and old-fashioned farmers market.
